Drip Doctors Publicly Expose One of Their Clients for Anti-Doping Violation

Drip Doctors, the Los Angeles-based medical clinic that provides intravenous infusions to elite athletes and famous celebrities, publicly exposed an anti-doping violation committed by one of their clients. Drip Doctors posted a message that ultimately resulted in an 18-month suspension for French professional soccer player Samir Nasri.

“We provided @SamNasri19 a concierge Immunity IV Drip to keep him hydrated & in top health during his busy soccer season with @SevillaFC,” stated a message posted on Twitter by @DripDoctors on December 26, 2016.

Drip Doctors also shared a photograph on Instagram of Nasri posing with Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder Jamila Sozahdah. The photograph showed Nasri and Sozahdah at a hotel following the intravenous infusion.

Nasri received an IV infusion identified as the “Immunity IV Drip”. The infusion did not contain any type of anabolic steroids or other prohibited drug. It only contained vitamins, minerals and amino acids such as Vitamin C, B-vitamins, lysine and zinc in combination with other micronutrients intended to provide an immunity boost. However, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has strict guidelines concerning the use of IV infusions.

WADA prohibits all IV infusions that exceed 50-milliliters in any given 6-hour period unless the athlete has a therapeutic use exemption (TUE). Nasri received a 500-milliliter infusion which represented a clear anti-doping rules violation.

If Drip Doctors had not decided to publicly share the details of Nasri’s medical treatment, he most likely would never have been caught. But thanks to Drip Doctors, anti-doping authorities were alerted to Nasri’s breach of the WADA Code.

Richard Ings, the former CEO of the Australian Sports Anti Doping Authority (ASADA) from 2005 to 2010, saw the tweet from Drip Doctors and immediately alerted WADA and the Spanish Anti-Doping Agency (AEPSAD).

An AEPSAD investigation led to a 6-month suspension. The suspension was increased by 12-months to 18-months aft er an appeal by the Union of European Football Association Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (UEFA).

At the time of Nasri’s visit to Drip Doctors, Nasri was playing for the Sevilla Football Club of La Liga on a loan deal with the Manchester City Football Club of the Premier League. It was the final year of a four-year and £25 million contract with Manchester City.

Unfortunately, Nasri’s career seemed to quickly go downhill after the Drip Doctors snafu. Drip Doctors penchant for self-promotion on social media has seriously harmed future Nasri’s career prospects. Sozahdah and her sisters are sometimes compared to the Kardashian sisters in part due to their willingness to use their good looks on social media to promote themselves and their business ventures. Their self-promotion may sometimes come at the expense of famous clients like Nasri.

Nasri briefly played for the Turkish professional football club Antalyaspor of the Süper Lig following the Drip Doctors doping scandal. After signing a 2-year contract with Antalyaspor, the contract was terminated after Nasri made 8 appearances and only scored 2 goals.

Nasri is currently unemployed. The free agent will be eligible to return to competition, assuming he is signed by a new club, when his suspension ends in November 2018.
