Taylor Weyeneth is POTUS Donald Trump’s choice for the position of Deputy Chief of Staff for the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). The ONDCP is in responsible for coordinating the federal government’smulti-billion dollar war on drugs (including the war on steroids and anti-doping).
What makes Weyeneth qualified for the position? Well, Weyeneth was once at least nominally in charge of producing illegal steroids at a supplement company. Does that count?
Weyeneth was the Director of Production for Nature’s Chemistry from 2008 until 2013 according to one resume he submitted to various employers. Nature’s Chemistry is a New York-based contract manufacturing company for the dietary supplement and health products industry.
Nature’s Chemistry specializes in the production of chia seed products but also produce dietary supplements; organic and gluten-free foods; herbal extracts; and other health food products. On at least one occasion, Nature’s Chemistry manufactured synthetic designer steroids for a sports nutrition company.
Competitive Edge Labs CEO Steve Wood hired Nature’s Chemistry to manufacture 45,000 bottles of CEL M-Drol in August 2011. Nature’s Chemistry received 50-kilograms of raw methasterone powder shipped from a chemical company called the Sino Bio-Tech Company in China. Nature’s Chemistry fulfilled the order and delivered 44,982 bottles of CEL M-Drol to CEL headquarters in December 2011. Nature’s Chemistry was paid $55,000.
The only problem was that the importation, manufacture and distribution of synthetic steroids disguised as dietary supplements was illegal. The FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations was cracking down on this practice in an investigation codenamed “Operation Grasshopper”
Operation Grasshopper resulted in the arrest of Nature’s Chemistry owner and president Matthew Greacen, Nature’s Chemistry vice president James Mills, and CEL owner Steve Wood. Greacen pleaded guilty to one felony count of conspiracy to defraud the U.S. FDA. He was sentenced to four months home confinement and two years probation. Mills and Wood also pleaded guilty and were sentenced to probation as well.
Where was the Nature’s Chemistry Director of Production during all of this? One may have logically assumed that Weyeneth was doing something like “directing” the “production” of the synthetic steroid product.
Weyeneth didn’t know anything about the steroid operation according to his mother Kim Weyeneth. The 36,000 square-foot manufacturing facility was so “humongous” that Greacen (who was Weyeneth’s stepfather) was able to hide it from Weyeneth and his mom. Weyeneth was never charged with any wrongdoing.
Operation Grasshopper was a close call for Weyeneth. If he had been convicted as a felon on steroid-related charges, he may never have risen through the ranks to become one of the top dogs in the U.S. war on drugs (steroids)!
