Anytime Fitness Shreveport Owner Mike Mosura Indicted for Allegedly Allowing Steroids to Be Sold to Gym Members

Mike Mosura, a Louisiana businessman who owns an Anytime Fitness franchise in Shreveport, has entered a plea of not guilty to federal charges related to the distribution of anabolic steroids. Mosura was indicted on one count of Conspiracy to Distribute and to Possess with the Intent to Distribute Anabolic Steroids by a federal grand jury on September 27, 2018.

Mosura pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Judge Mark Hornsby in United States District Court in Shreveport on October 9, 2018. Mosura allegedly conspired with a married couple in Bossier City named Brant and Julie Landry.

Brant Landry was reportedly the mastermind behind an underground laboratory (UGL) that manufactured anabolic steroids products. Landry was indicted on felony charges of conspiracy, possession with intent to distribute anabolic steroids, manufacture anabolic steroids and possession of a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking offense.

However, Mosura reportedly had a passive role in the operation. Mosura never actively sold steroids. Police alleged that Mosura was “aware” that steroids were being sold at a commercial gym where he worked. The name of the gym was not disclosed but Mosura is the owner of at least one Anytime Fitness franchise in Shreveport as well as Anytime Fitness franchises in two other states. Mosura oversees the daily operations of the Anytime Fitness facilities.

Much like Mosura, Julie Landry was not actively involved in her husband’s steroid operation. She was merely aware of the operation and did nothing to stop it. Unfortunately, she took a more active role when the shit hit the fan and her husband was aware that the police were on to him.

Brant Landry asked his wife to remove and dispose of all the steroids stored in there house. Concealing evidence of a crime from police is a felony i.e. misprision of a felony. This also made her a co-conspirator along with her husband and Mosura.

All three co-conspirators have pleaded not guilty. Mosura and Julie Landry were immediately released on bond. However, Brant Landry spent over a week in the Bossier Parish Medium Security Facility before he was released from custody on October 9, 2018. But Brant Landry will be under house arrest until he goes to trial; this means he must wear and ankle monitor and can only leave his house between 7 AM and 11 AM for specific reasons such as visiting his attorney, going to the doctor, going to court or going to college classes.

Lyn Lawrence, the defense attorney representing Mosura, promised a vigorous defense against the criminal charges.

“He’s named in count one of the conspiracy. He’s not named in any of the other counts,” Lawrence told reporters. “I expect a vigorous prosecution and I’m sure they expect a vigorous defense.”
