Be Careful Ordering Steroids from Thailand

A lot of things are legal in Thailand that are not legal in the rest of the world. The fact that anabolic steroids are legal to buy and sell in Thailand may be of particular interest to bodybuilders. This leads to an abundance of sources in Thailand willing to ship steroids directly to your doorstep anywhere around the world. But ordering steroid from Thai sources may not be such a great idea especially for American bodybuilders.

It may seem less risky to import steroids from a country where there are no prohibitions against steroid use for performance- and physique-enhancement. That may be true of many countries but as far as Thailand is concerned, there is a much greater risk than immediately meets the eye.

The reason that Thailand is so much riskier is that the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is working hard to bust you long before the steroid packages come into the United States through customs. The DEA has an active presence in Thailand working to bust your ass before the steroids ever leave Thailand.

The DEA has a very strong presence in Thailand. And the DEA works very closely with its law enforcement counterparts in Thailand to identify Americans who are ordering and importing illegal drugs from Thailand. This little known fact was revealed on the website of the U.S. Embassy and Consulate in Thailand.

“In Thailand, DEA supports the Royal Thai Government’s counter narcotics efforts, while targeting drug trafficking organizations responsible for smuggling controlled substances into the United States and the international market,” according to the U.S Embassy and Consulate in Thailand. “The DEA has offices in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Udorn, Thailand.”

The DEA has an annual budget of over $3 billion. And the DEA allocates over 15% of that budget to strengthen what is called the “long arm of law enforcement” operating overseas. The DEA’s tentacles extend into DEA Foreign Offices located in 69 countries. In fact, ten percent of the DEA’s Special Agents and Intelligence Analysts are permanently stationed overseas. And there is no country where the DEA’s relationships are cosier than in Thailand.

You may think that the DEA is only really interested in hard narcotic-type drugs coming out of Thailand like opium, heroin and methamphetamines. But the DEA has admitted that it specifically targets American bodybuilders importing steroids from Thailand. DEA Special Agent Jeffrey Knight made this startling admission in recently filed court documents.

“DEA Special Agents in Thailand work closely with the Thailand customs authority. Thailand’s customs service has authority to open packages in that country that are destined to locations in the United States and elsewhere that contain steroids, which are generally not contraband in Thailand. The customs service passes this information to DEA Agents located in Thailand,” according to DEA Special Agent Knight in a Criminal Complaint filed in February 2017.

The DEA explicitly admitted that Thai customs agents scan suspicious-looking packages addressed to Americans that may contain steroids. The Thai officials open the packages, take inventory of their contents, photograph the contents and pass the information on to DEA Special Agents in the Bangkok Foreign Office. DEA Agents in Bangkok evaluate the information and pass it on to the local DEA office back stateside.

This is what happened in the unfortunate case of the United States v. Sean Dubanowich. It was game over before the steroids ever left Thailand. Thai customs photographed a package containing Alpha Pharma TestoRapid, Genesis Mesviron 25, LA Pharma Promax, LA Pharma DecaMax, Thaiger Pharma Primoprim and Sustanon 250. The information was shared with the DEA Bangkok office who past it on to the DEA Albany (NY) office. The case resulted in a 27-month prison sentence.
