Dianabol remains one of the most popular anabolic steroids in the history of performance enhancment drugs.
Dianabol was the trade name used by CIBA Pharmaceuticals for the anabolic steroid methandrostenolone or methandienone. Bodybuilders continue to use the name Dianabol (or Dbol for short) to describe this steroid even though CIBA Pharmaceuticals abandoned the trademark and the steroid’s production decades ago.
Dianabol remains one of the most popular anabolic steroids in bodybuilding. Dianabol is one of the oldest synthetic steroids in existence. It was commercially introduced over 60 years ago in 1958. Its popularity persists due to several factors.
Dianabol was the fist synthetic steroid to see widespread use in both bodybuilding and elite and professional sports. Elite athletes and bodybuilders who used steroids in the 1960s and 1970 were inevitably using Dianabol.
Its availability as an orally-active steroid made it as easy and convenient as taking a daily multi-vitamin. It soon became known as the “breakfast of the champions”. But most importantly, Dianabol worked and it worked well to build muscle and strength in a variety of sporting disciplines.
How to Use Dianabol
The recommended therapeutic dose for Dianabol was established at 5 milligrams per day by the manufacturer. This was considered to be a hormone replacement dosage. Obviously, athletes experimented with a much higher dosage for performance-enhancement and muscle-building purposes.
The typical dosage of Dianabol is 20 to 50 milligrams per day either alone or in combination with other steroids. Dosages exceeding 50 mg/day provide little additional results with a greater chance of experiencing negative side effects.
Dianabol-only cycles were relatively common in the 1960s and 1970s. These type of cycles have fallen out of favor since then although many users can still achieve excellent results from Dianabol alone.
Recommended Dianabol stacks
However, the most effective administration of Dianabol involves stacking it with injectable anabolic steriods. Many users feel there is a synergistic interaction between Dianabol and certain injectables. For example, Dianabol plus Deca Durabolin stacks, Dianabol plus Testosterone stacks, Dianabol plus Trenbolone stacks tend to give very satisfying results.
Dianabol is a particular good addition to a modest injectable testosterone cycle. The addition of 50 milligrams Dianabol to a 500 milligram per week testosterone enanthate cycle provides a dramatic improvement in results.
Similarly, stacking Dianabol with injectable Trenbolone Acetate also provides synergistic results. As an example, a stack of 50 mg/day Dianabol with 100 mg/day Trenbolone Acetate is a popular combination among steroid users.
Yet the most popular Dianabol stack of all time is probably the Dianabol plus Deca Durabolin stack. Stacking 50 mg/mg Dianabol with 400-500 mg/day Deca Durabolin can give greater results with fewer side effects than stack involving Testosterone or Trenbolone.
Finer points of Dianabol use
The length of any Dianabol cycle should probably be limited to around 8 weeks due to the potential for liver toxicity that accompany c17-alpha alkylated compounds like Dianabol. Dianabol users should abstain from using any other orally-active steroids between cycles to give the liver a chance to recover.
Dianabol can be used in a single daily dose or divided daily doses depending on user preference. It is important to keep in mind that Dianabol only has a half-life of 3 to 5 hours.
A single daily dose may be less disruptive to the body’s natural production of testosterone but will achieve a fluctuating blood level. Whereas dosages divided throughout the day will provide more stable blood levels. This generally provides the best results in terms of muscle-building and recovery for most users.
If Dianabol is stack with a long-acting injectable steroid ester like Testosterone Enanthate, the latter dosage pattern would be recommended since natural testosterone production would already be suppressed.
Dianabol side effects
The most noteworthy adverse side effects associated with Dianabol include liver toxicity, aromatization (conversion to estradiol) and testosterone suppression. Of course, the potential for adverse side effects common to all anabolic steroids is always a possibility such as androgenic side effects and cardiovascular side effects.
The conversion of Dianabol to estradiol can be prevented through the use of an aromatase inhibitor like Arimidex or Letrozole.
As noted earlier, hepatotoxicity is best managed by limiting the length of cycle to no more than 8 weeks with an adequate break from other liver toxic compounds.
Small dosages of Dianabol as low as 10-15 mg/day can cause dramatic testosterone suppression after 6 to 8 weeks. An appropriate post cycle therapy (PCT) protocol following the cycle would be recommended to address this side effect.
